Our Community Work

About Our Community Work

At Physical and Nutrition, we are committed to improving the health, well-being, and confidence of people in North Manchester. Our work is rooted in the belief that everyone, regardless of background, deserves the tools, support, and encouragement to lead a healthier life.

We support individuals and families who are often overlooked by traditional services. Many of the people we work with face challenges such as low self-esteem, poverty, poor health, or a lack of a positive routine. Our community programmes provide a safe, non-judgmental space for people to reconnect with themselves, learn new habits, and feel part of something meaningful.

Our work includes group sessions on nutrition, movement, emotional wellbeing, and routine, as well as targeted support for young people at risk of developing harmful behaviours, such as vaping, isolation, or disengagement from school. We also offer mentoring, peer support, and personal development workshops, ensuring our programmes are holistic, trauma-informed, and built around real-life needs.

Everything we do is shaped by local voices. We regularly consult with residents and hold co-design sessions based on what people say they want and need. Our aim is not just to deliver services, but to build confidence, create connections, and open up opportunities.

Tyler’s Story (Age 15)

Tyler was referred to us through a local youth service. He had started vaping heavily, had missed a lot of school, and was struggling with a low mood and motivation. He didn’t feel comfortable in traditional health or fitness spaces and told us he felt “written off.”

Tyler joined our 12-week wellbeing programme, starting with light movement activities and group discussions on food and routine. Over time, he began to open up. He kept a wellness journal, met regularly with one of our mentors, and eventually shared his experiences in a group discussion. By week 10, Tyler had not only reduced his vaping but had also improved his sleep and school attendance. He’s now part of our peer mentoring group, helping others take their first steps forward.

Layla’s Story (Age 18)

Layla found our programme through a community poster. She described herself as “anxious, tired, and stuck.” Having struggled with food insecurity and social isolation, she wasn’t sure what to expect but came to our sessions with an open mind.

Through our weekly workshops, Layla learned practical ways to manage her energy through food and movement, but most importantly, she found a safe space to be herself. She built new friendships, gained confidence, and started to set small goals. Layla now volunteers at local youth sessions and is planning to study nutrition at college.

Our Impact

Since launching, Physical and Nutrition Ltd has supported over 100 individuals, ranging from children and teens to parents, carers, and isolated adults. Our focus is on early intervention and personal growth. We don’t promise perfection, we promise progress.

Our impact includes:

  • Reduced risky behaviours (including vaping, inactivity, and unhealthy eating)
  • Increased confidence and self-belief in young people and adults
  • Stronger community ties, with participants often returning as mentors or volunteers
  • Improved physical and emotional well-being tracked through journals, questionnaires, and personal stories

In our most recent programme, over 80% of participants reported improved confidence, and three in five reduced or stopped vaping. More than 70% said they had made long-term changes to their routines and wellbeing habits.

Our mission is simple: to support people to believe in themselves, build healthier lives, and contribute to a stronger, more connected community.
